Common questions
How do I scan a receipt?
From the add-transaction screen, choose to scan a receipt and either take a photo or pick one from your library. Cashflow reads the text from the image on your device, then fills in the merchant, amount, date and category for you. Check the result before saving — receipts vary wildly, and the app can misread a smudged or crumpled one.
You can also share a receipt straight into Cashflow from the iOS share sheet in another app.
Receipt scanning isn't working. What should I check?
A few things, in order:
- Is the photo readable? Flat, well-lit, whole receipt in frame, no heavy glare. The text has to be legible to a human first.
- Have you run out of free scans? Free scanning is limited. You can add your own AI provider key to keep going without a limit.
- Is your provider key still valid? If you added your own key, check that it hasn't expired and still has credit with that provider.
- Are you offline? Remote AI providers need a connection. Apple's on-device model works offline.
If the app shows an error message, include its exact wording in your email to us — it usually points straight at the cause.
Do I need my own AI provider key?
No. On iPhones that support it, Cashflow uses Apple's on-device model by default — free, private, and works without a connection. There is also a limited free allowance using our own key.
Adding your own key (Google Gemini, Anthropic, OpenAI, Groq, NVIDIA or Together AI) removes the free-scan limit. Your key is stored in the iOS Keychain on your device and is never sent to us. You pay that provider directly for what you use.
How does sharing with my family work?
Create a group and invite the people you share expenses with. Everyone in the group sees the group's transactions and totals, and each transaction shows who recorded it. Your personal transactions stay private — they are never part of a group.
You can switch between your personal view and a group view at any time. Note that leaving a group does not remove the transactions you already recorded in it: they stay part of that group's shared history.
How do recurring transactions work?
Mark a transaction as recurring and Cashflow will keep creating future occurrences for you on the schedule you set. When you edit or delete one, the app asks whether you mean just that occurrence, or that one and everything after it — choose carefully, since "this and all future" applies to the whole rest of the series.
Can I import or export my data?
Yes, both. Cashflow imports transactions from a CSV file, and exports everything you've recorded back to CSV. Importing and exporting are both part of the paid plan, but your data is never held hostage: you can ask us for a free copy at any time, on any plan, and we'll send it within 30 days.
On import, rows with a date the app can't understand are skipped rather than guessed at, and you'll be told how many were skipped.
I got signed out when I logged in on another device.
That's intended. Cashflow keeps one active session per account, so signing in somewhere new signs the previous device out. It's a deliberate protection for an app holding your financial records. Just sign in again on the device you want to use.
Can I lock the app with Face ID?
Yes — turn on the biometric lock in your profile settings. Cashflow will then ask for Face ID or Touch ID every time it launches, and will hide its contents in the iOS app switcher so your balances aren't visible in the preview.
How do I delete my account and all my data?
You can do it yourself, in the app: go to Profile → Delete Account. You'll be asked to type a confirmation word and to sign in again, and then your account, your personal transactions, your profile photo and the receipt images on your device are permanently removed. There is no undo.
If you want to keep a copy first, do it before you start — you can't afterwards. Export to CSV in the app, or just email us and we'll send you a free copy whatever plan you're on.
If you'd rather we handled it, email cashflow.expenses.app@gmail.com from the address on your account and we'll action it within 30 days.
Transactions you recorded inside a shared family group may remain visible to that group's other members, as those records are part of their financial history too.
I have a promo code. How do I use it?
Promo codes unlock Cashflow Premium, and Apple applies them to your Apple Account. There are two ways to redeem one:
- In the app: open the More tab, tap Subscribe (or Manage Subscription if you already subscribe), then Redeem code. Apple's sheet opens: type the code and confirm.
- From the App Store: tap your profile picture at the top right, then Redeem Gift Card or Code, and enter the code manually.
Apple shows you the offer — what you get and for how long — before you confirm. When the offer period ends, the subscription renews at the regular price unless you cancel it before then, in the Settings app → your name → Subscriptions.
A code not being accepted? Check that it's typed exactly as given and hasn't expired. Codes can only be used once, some are only for new subscribers, and some are limited to certain countries or regions. If it still won't work, email cashflow.expenses.app@gmail.com with the code and the message you saw.
Something is wrong with my subscription or purchase.
Purchases and refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. To manage or cancel a subscription, open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions. For refunds, use reportaproblem.apple.com.
If you've paid and the app still doesn't recognise it, try the restore-purchases option in the app first, then email us if it persists.
I found a bug, or I have an idea for the app.
Both are very welcome — write to cashflow.expenses.app@gmail.com. For bugs, the steps that reproduce the problem and a screenshot make an enormous difference.

Algumas coisas, nesta ordem:
A digitalização gratuita é limitada.
